Archives and Records Council Wales are pleased to announce that the Wales: Showing our Metal project has been chosen to receive funding from the National Cataloguing Grants Programme 2013.

This two year project will open up access to some of the most important collections relating to the steel industry held in public archive service across Wales.

The project will begin in Apr 2014. It forms part of a wider push by ARCW and Swansea University to tell the story of the history of the steel industry, which has long been overshadowed by other industries, and particularly coal.

The collections chosen for the project were identified as priorities for cataloguing during previous survey work because of their current inaccessibility and their future research potential. They include the records of major steel works in both south and north Wales, as well as papers of the main trade union, giving a comprehensive insight into different sides of the industry.
